Our State Manager will be instrumental in ensuring the delivery of exemplary customer service, meeting and exceeding sales targets, maximising profits, and achieving people-centric objectives in strict adherence to functional protocols, local governance, and regulatory standards.  

Reporting into our Chief Commercial Officer our State Manager will lead and orchestrate Sales and Underwriting functions whilst overseeing claims, marine and commercial packages for South Australia and the Northern Territory.

Responsibilities:

  • Support and execute motor distribution strategy and align with the divisional and organisational GT Insurance strategy, vision, and values.
  • Develop, build and maintain sustainable relationships across all broker segments and execute the GT’s broker sales/go-to-market strategy to achieve profitable growth targets. 
  • Lead sales, service and underwriting excellence through the delivery and negotiation of the sales pipeline and underwriting solutions for all customer and broker segments.  
  • Identify market and industry trends, understanding and anticipating customer needs through business relationships and competitor analysis.
  • Embed and maintain an operating rhythm that closely monitors the critical activities and assist in driving performance across key areas and metrics - financial, people, customer, improvement opportunities, risk and compliance.  
  • Lead GWP production and strive for excellence at every touch point with customers through customer engagement, communication, effective operational structures, effective planning and market delivery of strategic initiatives. 
  • Lead, coach, and support all GT employees across the state to develop capability, build high performing, collaborative and engaged teams, talent development plans and balanced performance priorities.
  • Embed a sustainable, agile, and adaptable risk-aware culture through thought leadership and role modelling desired behaviours to take ownership of risk and compliance for the designated business area. 

Skills & Experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or the equivalent business experience.
  • Experience as a Leader or Senior Sales Professional, in a contemporary insurance/ financial business. 
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership and people management with proven record of building and managing high performance teams. 
  • Proven capability to foster team collaboration, commitment and participation when managing and embedding change and process improvement initiatives.  
  • Demonstrates strong commercial acumen by using insights related to market, opportunities, risk, and competitors that influence these factors. 
  • Strategic sales ability including effective business planning, negotiation skills and ability to influence and persuade. 
  • Proactively build and maintain strategic professional relationships and networks with audiences at all levels. 
  • Proven ability to measure, analyse and report on data and financial metrics 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of communicating with audiences at all levels with clarity, impact, and influence.
